In Italian the verb (to cook) is Cucinare or Cuocere.

What is the difference between Cucinare and Cuocere?

Cucinare is used when we talk about the preparation of food for example:

  • Stasera cucino io. (I’m cooking tonight).

Cuocere indicates the process of cooking the food from raw to cooked for example:

  • Cuocere carne in umido.
  • Stewed meat.
  • Cuocere la carne a fuoco vivo.
  • To cook the meat over high heat.

Le patate fritte | The fried potatoes / French fries
