Interrogative adjectives and pronouns question the quality, quantity, and identity of people, animals, or things.
Exclamatory adjectives and pronouns are used in exclamations.

Both pronouns and interrogative and exclamatory adjectives are used:
a). in independent sentences (ending with a question mark)
- Quanti anni hai? (aggettivo interrogativo)
- How old are you? (interrogative adjective)
- Che vestito hai! (aggettivo esclamativo)
- What dress do you have! (exclamatory adjective)
b). in dependent clauses (indirect interrogatives)
- Dimmi con chi esci stasera!
- Tell me who you’re going out with tonight!
- Non so quale sia la strada migliore da seguire.
- I don’t know what the best path to follow is.
- Dimmi quanti e quali furono i re di Roma.
- Tell me how many and which were the kings of Rome.
- Non so più che cosa fare, né a chi chiedere aiuto.
- I no longer know what to do or who to ask for help.
c). in exclamatory forms
- Che faccia tosta!
- What a nerve!
- Guarda chi si vede!
- Look who’s here!
- Quanta pazienza ci vuole!
- How much patience is needed!

The noun cosa is in increasingly widespread use instead of che cosa.

“Che” is a less formal variant of “Quale” as an adjective.
