1. Why is Italy so colorful?
As we all know Italy is famous for its colored houses but, have you ever wondered why? Fishermen and sailors mostly inhabited the houses of the villages overlooking the sea. They painted their houses using vivid colors so they could identify them from afar when out at sea.
2. What are official Italian colors?
Italian official colors are green (verde), white (bianco), and red (rosso) which we can see on the Italian flag.
3. What are the rules for colors in Italian?
A). Colors in italian can be used as noun:
Colors ending in -o are masculine (like bianco, nero, rosso, etc), in -a are feminine (like viola), and in -e can be masculine or feminine (like verde, arancione, marrone, etc).
- Il nero è il colore della mia macchina.
- Black is the color of my car.
- La viola è il colore della mia sciarpa.
- Purple is the color of my scarf.
B). Colors in italian can be used as adjectives: Must follow the number and gender of the noun it refers to.
