Those verbs that can belong to two different conjugations are called superabundant, because two different forms have developed from the same root.
Verbs that belong to this category are:
- Verbs that have two more or less identical forms and meanings such as, for example:
- Adempiere and adempire (to fulfill).
- Compiere and compire (to fulfill).
- Intorbidare and intorbidire (to muddy).
- Starnutare and starnutire (to sneeze).
- Werbs which, with the change in conjugation, also changes in meaning such as, for example:
- Arrossare = rendered rosso (to become red)/ Arrossire = diventare rosso (to tern red).
- Imboscare = nascondere (to hide)/ Imboschire = piantare un terreno a basco (to afforest).
- Fallare (to fail) = fare puno sbaglio ( to make a big mistake) / Fallire (to fail)= avere esito negativo (have a negative outcome)/ fare fallimento (go bankrupt).
