The RELATIVE SUPERLATIVE expresses the maximum degree of a quality in relation to a specific set (things, people).
The RELATIVE SUPERLATIVE
The relative superlative is formed by preceding the adjective with the definite article as follows:

- È la persona più/meno simpatica che io conosca.
- He’s the most/least nice person I know.
The ABSOLUTE SUPERLATIVE
The absolute superlative expresses the maximum degree of an absolute quality.It is formed:
a) with the addition of the suffix -issimo to the root of the adjective.
- Grand-issimo, piccol-issimo, felic-issimo, ecc.
- Very big, very small, very happy, etc.
- È un signore gentilissimo.
- He is a very kind gentleman.
- È una signora simpaticissima.
- She is a very nice lady.
- Sono signori ricchissimi.
- They are very rich gentlemen.
- Sono signorine bellissime.
- They are beautiful ladies.
b) preceding the adjective with molto, tanto, assai, particolarmente, notevolmente, veramente, oltremodo, proprio, ecc.
- Mi sento molto / tanto / assai /veramente stanco.
- I feel very / very / very / really tired.
c) repeating the adjective twice.
- Mi sento stanco stanco, un mobile grande grande, ecc.

d) preceding the adjective with the prefixes: arci, extra, sopra, sovra, super, stra, iper.
