What is the truncation in Italian (il troncamento)?
Sometimes a vowel or an entire syllable is dropped in front of words that begin with a vowel or even a consonant. In these cases the final syllable of the truncated word mostly has I,n,r, and rarely m.

The truncation cannot be done with plural nouns or with words that have a stress mark like (città) or monosyllabic words like (re).
